“ Art is made to disturb , Science to reassures. There is only one valuable thing in Art : The thing you cannot explain . “ George Braque (Cubist painter )
Art creates splendour
Art enhance our surroundings
Art reveals reality
Art immortalizes
Art convey desire
Art motivates intelligence and blaze the emotions
Art creates order and harmony
Art express chaos
Art accounts and commemorates experience
Art reflects the societal and cultural context
Art protests inequality and raises social awareness
Art elevates the commonplace
Art tells us what is beautiful
But what is beauty? What are its boundaries?
Every work of art is a figment of imagination it could illustrate reality and if it does what reality is it? Is it merely a depiction of what is real? It could be an intellectual phase or can be an expressive reaction of an individual and become a form of reality? Usually we assumed that artists who disfigure the physical appearance of things do not have the aptitude to manifest the accuracy of what is real. According to Frederick Nietzsche:” Art confronts the horrible – the wrong art confronts the terrors of the universe and therefore for the strong. Art can transform its horrors in such a way that they may be contemplated with enjoyment.”
A piece of art can dispute our standards of taste; some can draw out definitions of what is Art by these factors. The artists who made it, Is it beautiful? Does it look realistic? What does it convey?
Some only considered a painting to be a work of art if they are done by greatest artists i.e. Michelangelo Bounarroti, Pablo Ruiz Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, when a painting was done just for the whim of it, could it be considered a work of art? Because a greatest painter painted them? Majority of us thought so. Others are incredulous, while one may think that all art should be beautiful, and not just a piece of decorative object. But if we visit museums ,art galleries we will find some works of arts “ ugly “

Quintin Massys
Portrait of A Grotesque Old Lady
Oil on Oak 64.2x45.5 cm
This lady done with such details, enigmatic demeanour, sympathetic eyes, close to reality flabby neck, hands so smooth creating balance to her bearing as a woman.
For some viewers this would look, ghastly, ridiculous and ugliest of them all. Some sense a strong bond to the painting. Beautiful weird or ugly, sum it all up, these piece of work induce a response.
Some art …..just plainly , weird to become an art :

Bernard Buffets
“ Les Folles “
( Pretty Ugly exhibition in Gavin Brown Enterprises and Macarrone Gallery )
Women clad in two-piece bikini with face distorted, bulging-belly, tongue sticking out, weirdness stops at weirdness, too simple, too lean, it could ignite rapid thrills, even if it ends up a snob but the fact that they are women, a viewer could not resist but to take noticed. “Weirdness can be cool, but it can also be powerful’’. For a woman’s charisma is an art itself.
Some Art looks like an ordinary kid could do it…. Actually, even a Gorilla can do it.

painted by OKIE the Gorilla
Franklin Park Zoo
Here we can say that Art should not be at all be “ beautiful” in a literal sense. Art can be a range of different things and “beautiful” is only one of those many things.
Lastly we can’t define Art it is so complex. What is precisely Art? And what is not Art? Only the viewers shall be able to make a better judgement about “ what to them is Art “ For art offers only one level of experience, it penetrates the mental power, and only the emotions finally brings far overwhelming fulfilment. “
